Hello to everyone.

I finally decided to jump in and join the chat after following all 'goings on' as a visitor for a while. I am on holiday in France at the moment, where it is very cold and windy (much nicer at home I hear!). When we return home at the end of next week I will be putting the final touches to my chicken coop and then hope to get my first chickens the first week of June. I'm very excited about the whole thing and have spent months researching, but I'm sure once the chickens arrive I will find there are still loads of things I haven't thought of.

We only moved into our new house at the end of last October and we are now the owners of an acre of paddock with a barn and stables, one of which contained an old wooden sauna. It's this sauna that I'm converting into a coop and we have build a large run from the door and to one side of the barn. We also have half an acre of garden, which I am busy setting up a veg and soft fruit patch, so I'm one busy lady at the moment!

Hi Redbarnhens and welcome to the forum. Glad you decided to jump in and join us! We shall look forward to hearing about your new girls. Do you know what breeds you are looking for?

Hi Marigold and thank you for the welcome.

I was thinking of hybrid chickens, but then I read another thread on the forum and now I'm not so sure!!! There is a very good chicken breeder near to where I live who has started supplying a selection of hybrids and I had considered a mixture of Speckledies, Sussex Rangers and Rhode Rocks or Bluebelles!
