hello from shropshire , england, i am new here i am hopeing to get a few chickens soon so i am after a little advice

i am going to look at some chickens tomorrow as we have decided to keep a few in the garden. we have decided on a starter pack coop, chickens and every thing they need we thought it might be easier that way. i have been studying for ages but what makes a good chicken? is there anything ishould look for like feather condition, feet, etc. or can i just go for the cutest, friendly ones that take my eye
