Hi everyone

I'm Poppy and live in Derbyshire with one hubby, four dogs, 1 cat and only one Pekin girl. I lost two Pekin girls last year due to old age and my last old girl is presently roosting in the bathroom as I feel to cold to leave in the hen house on her own as -2 at the moment.

I am hoping to get three new POL pekins this weekend if all goes well. Bit worried of introducing them to Blossy and a bit worried they might bully her. Fingers crossed all goes well. Like the site.

Hi Poppy,

welcome to the forum,I'm sure Blossy will be so pleased to have new friends to boss around it will go well.Where/who are you getting them from? What colours? What colour is Blossy?

Hi Poppy,

Welcome to the Forum...

There may be difficulty until they sort out the pecking order but with a bit of luck, it won't be for too long.

There's an article here on introducing new chickens that you may want to read.

Blossy should be fine with the cold so long as she is fully feathered and has a dry, draught free house. Chickens cope well with the cold - heat bothers them more because they can only drink to cool down, they can't sweat.

Good Luck,

Thank you for the welcome. I bought my last pekins from a lovely man over in Oxspring Barnsley way. At the moment he has cuckoo, black and buff. I was hoping for three different girls. Harmony and Ginger who died late last year were black and buff and blossy is black. He has also got silkie crosses with I think light sussex a little unsure. Blossy sits in the garden with no friends so my aim is to just get her some company but company she will like and get on with and hope will become top hen again.

Thanks Tim will read about introducing new stock.

Best Wishes

Poppy

Good luck Poppy, thanks for the introduction. I hope you manage to get Blossy some company.
