Just a quick hello from myself, Chedge.
I am from Derbyshire and have had poultry since being born (mainly Chickens) and like to look at different breeds.
Look forward to chatting to you over the forums.

Hi Chedge and welcome from the Forum. We're from Derbyshire originally, but have moved now.

Ever had Guinea Fowl?

I'm considering them for when we move Tygrysek, so just getting a feel for their habits as I don't want any surprises. Seen them in flock mode. Very chatty and noisy- talking to each other and replying constantly so no good here.

Easy to keep freerange but they have a habit of laing eggs whenever they stand,so it is best to keep them until laid their eggs in some sort of enclosure. Not very good at raising their ofspring so it is much better if mother hen would take care of them that way they learn to comeback to the cop each night. They will rule over the chickens in pecking order. They noisy only when see danger, stranger or something would scare them off, other times are very quaiet.they will always choose bugs over grain-so they great in organic farming as they collect loads of them. Not easy to tame, you have to put some work in that. They wil crossbreed with chickens but they ofspring is infertile.
Beautifull birds to look at and their eggs last longer than chickens.

Thanks Tygrysek. That's more valuable info than I have gleaned in the entire last 6 months.

Sorry Chedge for hijacking your post.

Many of mine friends keeps them, most amaizing colours on them.Incubation time is 28 days for them. They go to the cop later than chickens and catching loads of bugs in the evening, very funny to watch them then  If I had more space I would have them allready in my garden.

I spotted a strange looking farmyard produced bird in the Intermarche (supermarket chain) fresh meat fridge. Said 'Pintard' on the label, which after going out to the car to check the dictionary, turns out to be Guinea Fowl. Sunday lunch sorted.
