Have seen these on lots of American pet and poultry supply sites. Would really like one for my chickens but the problem is it would be the wrong voltage/plug.

Did consider the solar heate water bowl which states it should be OK to -6C/20F

Does anyone use a heated water bowl in the UK/Europe?
Where did you buy it?

It would be great if one of our poultry sites sold these for the UK market. Our winters aren't quite as cold as N.America/N.Europe but it would be very handy for people who work/keep chickens on allotments (I guess you could connect to a solar power source).

I don't know of anyone using one - but you can use something similar - a brew belt that is designed to keep homebrew beer warm so it can ferment.

I've used them before - the hardest part is safely getting the 220V out to the water container location and keeping the wet out of the plug. I put it around a plastic container - you do need to be able to lift it off though for cleaning.

I don't bother any more = I either keep the water containers under cover in a building until morning, or, I throw old coats over the containers to keep them from freezing. Just placing the water container under a chook house can help when it's not too cold I find.

If like me you only have a few chooks(i've got 10)I add a few drops of glycerine in their water to stop it freezing during the day(tip from Sue/victoria's poultry)and always bring water containers as well as food in at night.
Don't want to supply the local rats with a drinking hole ;) ,frozen or not.
Yesterday,my water did start to freeze outside during the day,so knew it was time to add the glycerine.

I added some nitro-glycerine and ended up with dynamite chickens! :D

My little buddies have been snowed out the last two days and they don't know what to make of it. It's interesting looking at their footprints to see where they've been this morning - not very far!
I've put some straw down and given them a warm porridge and sweetcorn breakfast. They even had warm kippers and sweetcorn yesterday! A bit more work on the shelters needed I think.

A heated water feeder would be a great idea. I wonder if I could improvise a solar powered one...

I forgot about the glycerine tip so I'm pleased I've got spare water feeders. I'm off to the Co-op tomorrow to buy some glycerine!

My bantams were wearing the wellies, one each. You should see them hop around!
