My husband visits a model aircraft forum, where they have a long running thread on health and safety. One member recently posted this.

'Recently the Suffolk latch on the back door snapped so I went to Howdens to get another. No problem, nice black coated Suffolk latch except that no screws were provided with it. It needed 12 screws. Have plenty of screws but it would look better if these were black. Asked if these should have been included and was told towdens no longer provide screws with a lot of their items on the grounds of H&S because, for instance, someone might fix the latch with one inch screws in a door that was only half an inch thick, thereby risking injury and possible impalement on the other side of the door!'

I thought Chris would particularly enjoy this one!

Priceless really can't believe what some people spout with regards to H & S

Incredible Marigold, just incredible!!! If you saw what goes on here you would be staggered. There seems to be no health and safety issues as such, just expected to apply common sense or accept the consequences of your own stupidity. One thing I have noticed is the lack of road warning signs, so when you see one you read it. Roadworks on the motorways carry little speed restriction and few traffic cones, if any. They just block the lane with a lorry with a flashing sign. There are lots of 30Kph limits here in towns though and no road salting. The reason it's so cheap to live here appears to be partially due to the lack of Health and Safety.
