Hi all,
I have what might seem a strange question. Are there any breed of chickens that lay mostly eggs that turn out to be mostly female.
Thank you
Henry

If you could breed some of those you'd make a fortune!
Or even if you could invent some kind of sonic detector that would screen eggs for sex, that would do the job, then all the boys could go for omlettes!

I have just hatched 4 out of 4 Goldtops, all pullets, a first for me, and unless the information is wrong, gold - girls, white - boys, mine are gold!
I have to say they are the most amazing little characters, bright, alert, unfazed by anything, strong and tame naturally it seems, I would also say (dare I?) highly intelligent. They stand together as a bunch, always together. They are 6 weeks old yesterday, and as tough as they come, despite being small and delicate.
They have Silkie topknot, five toes and black skin - they are adorable, and after all my hen heart break of the last few months, I think I deserve a Goldtop break!!

There have been a few old wives tales about over the years. Round eggs pullets, pointed, males. Doesn't work. Most hens seem to have a particular shape to their eggs i.e. some lay rounded, some pointed, therefore some hens would be pullet breeders and some cock breeders !
A couple of years ago, there was some experimenting going on in lowering the incubator temp.by one degree as this was said to produce more pullets chicks. Seems to have died a death. No breeds produce more pullets then males over a lot of hatches. Even if you get all males in some hatches and all females in other hatches from the same parents, they will all average out about 50/50.

If the Gold tops were produced from White Silkie male on Light Sussex hens you have pullets Val.

'morning Chuck,
I think the egg seller said gold Silkie bantams - not white, I hope he got it right, I will try and find out and post. He did say gold - girls, white - boys.
Here I am thinking my little treasures are little goddesses, to be given names like Hero and Penelope, and they may be little gods!!.
Yesterday, I also added a second Columbian Blacktail to my new egg laying flock, a beautiful, stately girl, with black necklace, tail and lovely wingtips, she went straight in with the others, as she had come from a place with loads of "sisters" for company, and rather than leave her solitary, I took a chance.
