Hello!

My name is Ashley and I am from California! I'm new to poultry but they way things have happened.. I have 20 chicks
and have just won an auction for 12 random Greenfire Farm chicks! I am so excited for them to come!

I'm excited to be here and meet all of you! The poultry community is so sweet, except for some bad eggs.

I come here from BYC after having an admin delete this exact post:

Then was banned for three days when I asked why she deleted it if there are so many other users that post things worst than what I said! Things containing "they are horrible and should be ashamed," "never buy from (certain hatchery)," etc.

Anyways, sorry you guys had to see that. I just had to get that off my chest as I've been so understanding and have apologized so many times but cannot get a straight answer.. then got banned instead because I showed other people's post that were much worse than mine. :-)07

But that's enough of that! I'm not here for the drama, so let's move on!

I have my chicks in a brooder right now although the older ones are in my coop outside. I was very lucky to have moved here to find out the previous owners had built a "shed." I put that in quotations because it was just too impeccably built to be called a simple shed. It's a 12 wide by 12 feet long and 14 feet high room that has cement floors, insulated walls, and a gorgeous tiled gable roof. I also have a backyard where I supervise their free ranging for now until they get older. The yard is surrounded by 6 foot cement walls and I have many low hanging fruit trees that the girls love to hop on!

I hope all of you accept me as one of your own! (:
The last community I was in was so amazingly sweet with such great people who were more than willing to share their wisdom. I will forever be grateful to them. The mods however, act pretentious and cannot be questioned at all. I am so excited to meet everyone here!

I was also lucky enough to acquire a Jill Rees line Cream Legbar and Curtis Hale line. For those interested, I will start a thread where I compare the growth of both! :D

Hahaha! She will gladly give you one! (:

Man, it's so hot in Southern California today! In the hundreds! I'm so worried.. I've frozen some fruit to cool down my girls and sprayed the yard down with some water.. I feel so bad and wish I could take them all in my home with me )':

I'm thinking about making chicken diapers..

Hi Ashley and welcome to the Forum. Out temperatures here in the U.K. are winding down now, comfortably above freezing overnight and at the moment we're having lovely cool golden Autumn days. Ideal for our chickens, though the shortening hours of daylight and the moulting season mean that most of our girls are slowing down or stopping laying.
It's always interesting to hear how people keep their poultry in other conditions. I hope you chicks do well from now on. Here in the U.K. you aren't allowed to send chicks through the post, and of course temperature control is very difficult for them where you live, especially with small numbers.

Welcome to the forum Exotica. I've read your post- sounds like the breeder is a complete idiot. Setting aside the money, those chicks should have been properly transported. Hope your others are doing fine and keep any dogs well away from them. Even if they don't get eaten it will stress the chicks.
