Hi Everyone,
It's been some time since I visited the forum, but at last I've got a bit of time! I miss you guys.
This has been a very busy chicken year for me as I bought 50 x day-old chicks in the spring to rear and sell as laying hens. This is aswell as my small scale pure breed project. I'm pleased to say all went well and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole process. Many of the customers buying my POL hens were 1st time chicken keepers and I was so glad I was able to offer advice on the basics. Many of them contacted me after a few weeks to tell me their girls had started to lay. One lady came to look at the hens but decided not to buy because they weren't the colour she wanted. Then a few weeks later she came back to me for advice on the hens she'd bought elsewhere because they were feather pecking and she said she wished she'd bought some of mine instead! Another customer came and bought 8 hens because he'd seen some of my hens at his friends house - the stories go on and on.
Anyway - this is a bit of warning to those who - like me started of with 6 hens in the back garden. Yes it's very very addictive, but I love keeping chickens - even when it takes so long organising the watering routine in this freezing weather.
So with the Hippie Chick update complete, all that's left now is to wish you all a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
