hi
have just hatched a brood with a broody hen. the hen is quite tame, and i wondered if it was ok me and my children to handle them a little ? I was thinking of waiting a couple of days and then just having a quick hold every day? would that be ok or will it stress the hen out?
Many thanks

my first hen to brood was good as gold with us holding them, she seemed to love the attention that included but the next one was funny she hated me even being there to feed her (she lost them all sadly) the next too were great too.
id go see her if she seems stressed leave her alone if shes not too worried try picking one up

Play it by ear. Some hens get very stressed, especialy if the chick does and gets noisy. Broodies can also be very agressive and protective so be careful.

one of my broodies ctoo killed a 4 week old duckling who just popped head out the house for 5 mins and she was at least 60 ft away
so you will know if she doesnt like it not that she ever attacks me she thinks shes a parrot when not broody
