Hi Guys,we at the moment remodeling our house on back extention we planning to make intensive green roof. The roof going to be flat and i wanted to have some plants on them. The choice of plant for us can be quaiet wide as we could have small trees or shrubs. My plan is to not to go as far as the trees but more of a meadow style with lots of flowering plants good for bees too.
I also thinking of making a new cop and run for my chickens in other part of garden and was thinking of making the green roof on top of cop to.Have you come acros anything like this and does work in practical world?
and this is an example of green roof

Yes for the system I'm going to use one the house it has to be strong(we waiting for an structual enginier to comback with all details)For intensive system the extra load is 170Kg per square meter.
For a cop there will be difrent planting so it won't need that much stronger roof.

Sounds great Tygrysek but, like Marigold, the structural issues worry me, no matter what the engineer says (I am an engineer and used to do the structural calcs for loft conversions for fun?). There needs to be a dramatic increase in the roof support and there are then issues with keeping it green and root invasion. I thought people only did this to get planning permission, not for any ecological reasons? What does the building insurance company say?

All this is considered in planning. This is nothing new it had been installed for many years now all over the world.Insurance company has nothing to do with as there is no clausule in they policy about it at all.It actually has better fireproof qualities , les likly to burn so a definitly a bonus from insurance point of view.

Would be nice to step out of your bedroom onto a lawn Tygrysek. Not sure the neighbours would like the loss of privacy though. But putting your chickens up there would make them very secure.

Well It crossed my mind :-)08 but still is only 21 square meters, but maybe some quills in that case
I do not think my neighburs would object as before planning application I had asked them if a terrace would be an issue for them .They all said it would not mind ,but our architect adwaized us not to as plannig officers really funny about that.
We will have door from the bedroom to acces the roof for easy maitnance of the roof.In the begining util plants establish themself you must water them.

We thought about this but decided not to do it. You need to have something like a rubber membrane (EPDM) underneath - our flat roof is just a heavy grade EPDM , made by Firestone. You need to provide drainage so the roof has to have a fall, it cannot be absoloutely flat. The guys that did our roof ( we also have a pitched rubber roof) install green roof systems (sedum) but you may be too far away for them. I can send you their details if your interested.

Thank you,but there is plenty local firm who do it around here.As we still long way till actual fitting we can make all adjustment neded. At the moment we can't do anymore as the next step requaires demolition of the wall and putting steel in wright places.Calculation have to be done etc.
