Would planting green manure be ok in a chicken and turkey run? Theres not a lot of grass in on of my chicken runs which i have now emptyed out, as its had chicken on for around 4 years an all but 1 got killed by a fox, so iv moved the last one in with some others an would like to put my hubbards in this run which i collect tomorrow as day old. I think its too late to sow grass so was thinking of sowing green manure the stuff you plant to over winter your vegy patch. Just like peoples thoughts. I also think i read some where that its a good idea to spread lime on heavly chicken ground is this correct or am i mistaken?
Many thanks

Sorry Wcah. Don't know what green manure is exactly? Whatever you put on the surface will be scratched up and possibly eaten, so you need to be careful.

Green manure should work ok, I don't know where you're from so not sure of the growing season. Clover is generally a good one.
As for the lime, yes I have heard if that too, it sweetens the ground as a heavy soil if chicken manure tends to sour(acidic) so the lime balances things out.... A little research on the volume per square yard but yes it will work.

Just found my green manure and its 'white mustard' . You sow in your resting veg plot and dig in after 50 days it revitalizes and improves soil structure. Havent planted yet. If this would be no good what could you recomend sowing in the chicken runs? Apart from grass.
