Giant Exhibition Toulouse geese

thats a nice bird in the center ;) where did you get your orignal stock from ?

Hi Ben, i originally imported two pairs of canadian Toulouse- i have 17 now and they are all good birds- the big gander in the middle would win most classes- there are so many poor examples of the breed- and becoming more so as people dont know what they are buying- there are some very poor examples on E-bay at the moment- only really one good breeder-i only keep birds true to type and standard- no major faults and very few minor ones- the picture isn;t the best one - it only shows a couple of geese i will take some more once it warms up a bit! Hope i dont sound like i am blowing my own trumpet!
How many geese do you have? are they true to type? thanks for the interest, regards, David

I only have 3 pairs at the moment , the orignal stock i started with all were of good quality , although not very big ,they had nice keels , but i have yet to breed my own stock which are big enough or have staight keels without dimples . Althought saying that , i have 1st with a female toulouse at the devon and cornwall 09 among other stuff.
On the point of breeders , i agree that there are very few about with the real deal . as far as i'm concerned, i could easily count all of them on one hand - there are that few.

How easy is it to import from canada ? i've asked people before and nobody seems to know .

Hi Ben, i imported them about 6 years ago- i have a friend who used to import a lot of parrots from the USA and Canada- he has all the proper paperwork- i just had to pay- about £2000 then so god knows what it costs now :o they were in quarantine for 3months as well- not cheap either - but worth it :)
I have taken a pic this morning- not a great one as it is very windy here and everthing was blowing around including dewlaps etc

thats alot !
out of intrest what made you want to import ? was it that the canadian birds were better or the english breeders very reluctant to sell good birds ?

Hi, i hunted this country for the best examples of the breed but the Canadian birds were so much better- lots of good birds in this country have minor faults- mainly white lines around the top of bill and lack of size, and a good keel- that gander in the middle of the picture is one of the best i have seen- even though he's my bird! - he is correct in all ways - perhaps he could be a little taller but show me a perfect one lol-
regards david

manged to find a pic of my orignal pair . ;)

yes they have been rapid breeders . about 15-20 gosling from this pair each year.

I'm wondering if you would let me know where in Canada you got you foundation Toulouse? I would very much like such fine foundation pair such as yours. I am in the U.S. so it may be a bit easier for me to import them--possibly a drive, if I'm lucky. Thanks so much, Chris
