Just wondering---those of you who give your chickens garlic for colds and sneezes---what form do you use (grated, liquid, powder) ? Also how much do you use in water?Do they like it? Thanks ,Ros.

I use garlic powder for horses. Buy it in tubs from feed merchants for about a fiver. Lasts a long time. I get a small scoop (like a coffee scoop or some such) and just then use 1 scoop of it mixed in the pellets in each feeder. You can use less but I give it all a good coating.

Just ensure the feed in the feeder doesn't get wet as the garlic powder will then form in lumps in the bottom.

I have used fresh garlic in the past but tbh this has a short shelf life and is a bit more time consuming. I switched to garlic powder years ago and never went back.

I also use horse garlic granules which I put into their water. I put a similar about into a very large water container which lasts my 12 girls about two days.

The horse products do come in larger amounts but are a much better price than the poultry section I do teh same for the apple cider vinegar to.

Hope that helps,

Greenhen

i use the granules but mix with their mash or occassionally use real garlic in water, if i find it on special offer at the supermarket.
i'm very tempted to grow my own for next year, i have already started to grow some oregano, which is supposed to be very good for chooks too.
