Hello all,

We have had our 2 Bluebells, one Sussex Star and one Black Rock for about four weeks now - we have a nice flock now of those four young chickens and our four year old Maran.
However a few days ago I noticed that one of the Bluebells had started to gape although her appetite is fine and she joins in the rummaging round the garden with the others with no problems. I've also just noticed that one of her eyes is bubbly and she keeps trying to scratch one side of her head with her foot. I have googled and found out about gapeworm and myco but the two symptoms together don't ever seemed to be mentioned. :?

If anyone has any ideas I would be very grateful!

Thanks very much.

Debbie

My bet would be a respiratory tract infection possibly Myco. Id isolate any with symptoms and see vet re need for antibiotics. They go off quickly sometimes so good idea to try to get some treatment today rather than wait till Monday. If they are new imports and all been together ,if mine, Id treat them all . Hope shes ok. I agree with Ros. Don't think it is gapeworm as the symptoms seem to be that of myco.
Hopefully with antibiotics she will be alright.

Agree with podstable & clairethebear. If you havent been able to see a vet as its the weekend, crush up a garlic clove & put it in the water, also some apple cider vinegar (up to 20ml per litre) will help in the short term.
