I found the link to this rather disquieting video on another forum and wondered what you would all do if you had hatched one like this and it was happily running around?

It is cerainly happily running around at the moment Marigold. But I can see a lack of circulation in them and the other chicks are pecking at them. Difficult call. I would expect them to fall off -whether that causes a problem I dont know. Bit like lambs tails perhaps. They may simply disappear completely in time, they are unlikely to grow. So do I cull now while its happy, or wait for a turn for the worst. Certainly no breeding from it!

I can't decide yet. If there was any evidence of discomfort or distress the decision would be easy.

They do fall off eventually. Waraeee had one called stumpy, became quite the celeb! Let him get on with it, little fella.

That's interesting. I wondered if the owner could have ensured this would happen by tying a ligature round the base of the extra legs, the way shepherds put castrating rings on lambs' testicles?
Not the sort of thing people usually ask advice about on here!

He looks much better once the legs dropped off and I'm glad the story had a happy ending.

They let them drop off naturally, stumpy was great for publicity so they wanted him 4 legged for as long as pos
