Found Dead

Sadly when I opened the duck house this morning one of my cross call ducks was lying dead. He was only 3 months old and appeared healthy. The others from the same hatch also appear healthy. No wounds or signs of being unwell and was happily playing yesterday in the pond.

Any thoughts or advice?

Hi, could be anything- and without a pm it's hard to say- if they where/are all healthy then i wouldn't worry too much- sometimes it just happens. Sorry i couldn't be more helpful

Oh I am sorry, usually by 3 months ducks are quite robust. Keep an eye on the others and check water is very clean, no algae buildup and that food is changed daily and not allowed to get mouldy. As david suggested difficult to tell without PM if no symptoms.

Thanks for the comments. It is difficult to understand nature at times, I guess.

I alway make sure all the water and feed bowls are clean and bedding is changed often.

They all have a great time and hope no more surprises are round the corner.

At least he didn't suffer, I agree nature is very hard at times, I remember losing my best breeding cock earlier this year he was a real character, I was devastated.
