Hello all
Haven't been on for a while, nice to be back!

Looks like I've finally got the dreaded red mite in one of my houses. Luckily (I think) I've almost finished my new house made with tin sheets so hopefully no more red mite.

Has anyone used this stuff:

Is it any good? I was thinking this could be useful at the beginning of pest season and if there's an outbreak of anything unpleasant.

Jamie

P.S. Since I last posted on here I became the proud Dad of two cats, Denzil and Gwynneth!

Hello Ozric.

Great to have you back - I've missed your banter ;)

Ah the dreaded Red Mite. They have come a month early with the warm weather...

Have you seen my blog post - How to get rid of red mite - this is how I get rid of them now and it seems to work and won't break the bank either.

Not sure about the mini fumers, I haven't tried them.

Great to see you back Jamie,

Tim.

Hi Tim
Yes I've read it, several times!

I've emptied the house and burned the bedding. I'm going to clean it out with bleach and leave it for a while.
The plan was to give it to a friend but I think I'll wait a while for now.

How long does it take, if ever for the mites to die off?

Jamie

As part of a test, last July, I put some red mites into a sealed Jam Jar. Some are dead but there are still 3 or 4 small grey (hungry!) mites crawling.... 9 months so far!

Tim

Hi Oz----- poor you they are awful to get rid of. Last year was my first serious encounter with them -- watch it ,they can hide anywhere (even on overlapping tin,) its not just wood they like ! I am amazed re Tims tale of some still alive in the jam jar --clearly tougher than I thought so they are bound to resurrect themselves here. I kept up my anti mite war all winter having been so upset by them last year but I bet they are hiding out there somewhere ready for me to find again! Good luck with erradication plan! Tim-----dont go and break that jam jar or they will be everywhere---like one of those 'Sci-fi virus ' films where someone in a lab knocks over a jar and all in the world die or become zombies apart from a select few who run around with machine guns!!! Ros

Don't worry Ros, I only put 6 or 7 in there and a few of these have died but there are still a few crawling.

Man they look pi**ed off with me !

9 months? sickener!

I'll clean the house as best I can before it goes and pray I get them all!

Jamie
