this is the continuation to my previous post in February.

For people that didn't read it I have retired to Northern Cyprus never having kept Chickens before.

I bought 12 eggs from a lady in Gloucester called Mary Pocock (really helpful) so I told her what I wanted to do and she surgested Cream Legbars's and Excequer Leghorns.

I collected them for her the day before the flight. When I got to Gatwick I said to security that I had fertile hen eggs in my hand luggage and would appreciate it if they were not X Rayed. Well they could not have been more helpful they sent for a guy that swabbed the two boxes and then I just had to open one box to prove they were eggs, wished me luck and handed them to me the other side of the scanner.

Anyway ten of the twelve eggs hatched our in a Janus incubator bought off Amazon and at this present time they are in there brood pen in the back yard loving it.

Sorry if any of the spelling was poor.

Regards

Dave Lee

So pleased to hear your great news Dave! Congratulations! I'm sure they will love the climate over there!

I asked the same question at East Midlands airport security. The senior officer refused to let me bypass the X-ray machine with hatching eggs unless I had supporting veterinary documentation. However one of her subordinates suggested I wrap the egg boxes in thick aluminium foil. This would result in them showing up as a black object which would then be inspected separately. There is a chance however that they would simply pass them back through the machine disregarding my request not to and so the principle would need to be tested before actually risking hatching eggs.

Perhaps I should fly from Gatwick?

Exchequer Leghorns were the creation of Keith Ashley, the secretary of the Leghorn club. We bought a bantam brown cockerel from him and saw his complex breeding pen setup -very pretty birds indeed. Took him many years to create apparently and now they await breed standard accreditation.

Wow! 10 out of 12. I was a bit worried about the pressure gradients but that's obviously no problem. Chicken diversity in Cypress! Yeah!
