well my quail flew across the field again, she is becoming a Houdini for escaping.
thank goodness that she is easy to catch, when i get in the field to collect her, she just squats down low.
they are all looking good, all summer outside in the run, but will be putting them inside the shed over winter and if we get the odd sunny day i will put them back out side. They do love being out side on the grass. :D

Yes I lost one a few days ago, at least one flew out of the run when I had the lid up, for the first time. Luckily she flew into a tall hedge at the bottom of the garden, dropped to the ground, and I could pick her up. I don't think she realised what had happened, and was probably quite relieved to have her bluff called and be back in the run with her friends!

My boy decided to boing out as I was opening the hut door the other day :o 1st time hes done that in the 15 months Ive had him. Lucky the dog didnt see him :)

As mine are inside I open their cage door in the evening to see if they fancy some roaming time but they hardly ever take me up on the offer. The other day Tilly did though, she jumped out then she proceeded to stand next to her cage for 10 mins all the while looking slightly alarmed at the state of events. Too cute :)

I think they do like it back in the safety of their run, like chickens do. I have a new POL leghorn hybrid, only lived here for afew days, not tame yet, and yesterday, when I was bringing her and her friend in from their grass run at teatime, she escaped and ran off down the garden. First time out, for a very good flyer! How on earth was i going to catch her? Couldnt see her anywhere. I spent ages poking around in the neglected, waist-high weeds and shrubs behind the grass run, and then I heard her calling - she has a sort of long, mournful, one-note call like a little foghorn. She'd found her way to the door of the main run, and was asking to be let in! Problem not solved yet - Marigold and Nutmeg on patrol the other side of the door, in their section of run, and the POLs not integrated yet. I thought she would fly up and over the fence if I got close enough to catch her, but she just let me pick her up and seemed happy to be back with her little friend. Phew!

it must be that time when all the birds are stretching their wings.
mine are not laying so much at the moment and they are all molting, i have duck feathers all over the lawn as well.
i have now put the quail into their shed, not happy about the move but they will settle in, at least they are warm and dry in there, especially with all this rain we have been having.
