Hi guys, my first batch are just starting to pip through the shell how long does it normally take for them to emerge... all excited

How exciting! It can take anything from a few hours to around 24 hours, once they externally pip though it's very important not to open the lid of the incubator, however tempting! :D
So what have you got pipping??? :-)08

Its prob gona be a dolly mixture lot. Thought i would try a batch of eggs out of the mixed pen before i put any pure breed eggs in. Got humidity up well 2 help them as best i can. fingers crossed on a positive outcome can hear a couple chirping 2 :D :D

i have to go out to stop my self opening up the incubator. iv lost my rooster so wont be putting any in soon even though im iching to :-)08

well 2 out so far 1 didnt make it, seemed 2 get stuck half way...any ideas why anyone ? Few others making slow progress they must b the lazy 1's...lol

Very exciting!
Let us know how the rest fare......
I would love to have a go at hatching a few, but I know I would want to keep them all and I haven't got the space...

Sometimes on Ebay you can buy just a couple of eggs. Mind you, we did that and they didn.t hatch. We then bought another 4 and the lady kindly gave us another 2 free. Out of those, 4 were viable and 3 hatched! Theres nothing like the excitment of waiting for them to hatch and seeing the little balls of fluff for the first time. :D

Goin ok for the first batch, got 5 out now only lost 1 so far... only 1 egg left and pipin thru so fingers crossed... wish people would give away some eggs to those who want them for hatching not as if they have to be from show birds for most people... :-)17 :-)17 i'd be happy to give away some to those who wanted them for hatching and cant keep the noisy boys

Can anyone keep me right here, how long should i keep hatched chicks in incubator before moving them to brooding box with heatlamp?

If they are fluffed up and dry, I woud move them to the brooder. Keep an eye on them for any distressed high pitched cheeping, that indicates something is wrong..normally they are feeling cold.
I have just got my first chicks of the season hatched last night, 5/6 large faverolles, beautiful cute things, popped a bit of crumb down and now they have HUGE crops.. :D :D

well done on ur fluff ball faverolles, take it they find the food and water for themselves?
