female ducks

question if i keep only female ducks will they call for a male, is it best to keep male and female together, at the moment i have one male and one female and i am worried he might pester her when breeding season start, how long does it last and will he leave her alone once she has laid her eggs, i am worried because they are in a pen and she really won't be able to get away easily, also i put them in a house at night will he still bother her then also. worried for my female, they are appleyard it's my first time keeping ducks, have had chickens for years but i have never kept a cock bird before.

I would get at least one more duck (preferably 2/3) to keep your boy happy. How big is your run? If you dont need or want a male, girls will be fine together. appleyards are lovely ducks look forward to seeing pics.
