At the chicken pen I am going through a massive red mite attack, at the allotment. Now at the moment I have been doing the general weekly wash down with standard Jayes fluid but its not seaming to doing the job.
Been looking through the general disinfectants at the local farm suppliers. does anyone have any prefferences and suggestions.

Virkon S
Sorgene 5
Antec farm fluid HD
Antec Virudine
Hyperox

I am also looking through general insecticides as well, but still undecided.
Tyrant and Stingray

I do not wish to be rude, but no herbal remidies please.

I have also just started using Ivermectin at 1% at one drop per 500gm per bird, on the birds, ( how many times do you standardise treat with this stuff, once a week, once a fortnight or once a month)

Ant powder with 0.8% permetharine as a dusting on the clean saw dust shavings

Any suggestions for any thing I have missed

With regard to disinfectants I use Virkon S, not very often though, maybe one every month or so. I do clean all the drinkers and feeders in a virkon based solution.

Redmite if you have an infestation yes any of those 2 insecticides will be effective, or alternatively use a couple of fumigation bombs one week apart. Flyte so fancy sell a good permethrin based fumer and not so expensive either.

i did think about fume bombs but due to the amount of air vent holes and grills it wont work that well, i have a wooden pen which is painted with gloss paint internally to seal all the noks and cranies and makes a decent surface to clean off

When I bought my 6-8 bird wooden coop second hand, it was infested with red mite. I found Total Mite Kill to work well; I used a whole bottle on the coop in two installments- rather more than was recommended, but it did the job.

Good luck.
