Explosive poo.

Our pet cockerel has just started doing what I can only describe as 'explosive poo'. A big watery splat containing undigested pellets, grit and anything else just eaten. Covers quite an area as well. I think his digestive system is reacting to one of his recent treats -he does love bananas. The problem has started since he was given some, albeit in tiny amounts. It seems it is gassing up and blowing through his entire system.

I know some foods have explosive results quite literally. When I lived in Felixstowe many years ago the locals substantially reduced the gull population by feeding them mustard sandwiches. Pieces were thrown into the air, the gulls caught and ate them and moments later literally blew apart in the sky! Barbaric I know. The gulls however got wise to it and let the pieces of bread and sandwich fall to the ground, inspected them closely and then only ate them if they didn't contain mustard.

Has anyone else had a similar problem with anything they fed their chickens?

Oh dear...maybe I should have waited until after I had finished my all-bran and banana breakfast before reading! :shock:

I expect anything with a high water content will have a faster transit through the digestive system..coupled with the high potassium content in bananas which acts as a natural diuretic may account for the err...somewhat explosive element of his droppings.

Fortunately the floors over here are fully tiled Icemaiden, but it's still a pain clearing up. He generally lives in the house, but goes down with his girls in the morning until lunchtime when he comes back for a nap. Spent yesterday evening having a cuddle in front of the fire as it is getting cold here now -about 10 degrees at night. Quite windy during the day, but the wind is warm. Experienced a strange phenomena last week -condensation on the double glazed windows OUTSIDE. The house was colder than the humid air outside so condensation formed on the windows.

Anyway, no more banana for him.

I do sympathise. Our dog is now getting on a bit, and likes to sit under my chair in the evenings whilst we watch TV. Am thinking if getting a gas mask.
I've tried two kinds of probiotics to no avail, and he's on a very carefully controlled and good quality diet.
Anyone got suggestions? Yes it's sometimes convenient to 'blame it on the dog' but there are limits!

How about a dog nappy filled with activated charcoal instead of absorbant? It should absorb the smell.
