hi
just had a call from my friend who has ex battery hens, she has just been to the vet with one of them as she isnt herself.
the hen is shaking her head and opening and shutting her beak as if she is catching flies.
the vet has had a look down her throat and sees nothing and said there seems to be nothing wrong. gave her a dose of liquid paraffin also.
anyone heard of these syptoms.
My friend says it looks as if she is trying to shake something out of her ear like a dog does, if she had an ear, well you know what i mean LOL :-)19

Possibly ear mites? Johnsons mite spray or Frontline might sort it. Ros

I have a cuckoo cochin that had those symptomes - vet said it was an UR infection, one jab of Tylan saw the end of the sort of gaping, charminly explained blicked sinusus made the "bogies" go down his throat :-)03 :-)03 - a year later he still shakes his head but there is nothing wrong with him any longer - gaping I've heard can also be a sign of worms :-)03

shaking thier head and making gapping movements could be a sign of gapeworm if i remember rightly have they been wormed at all ??

is she and the others being wormed now :D at least now you know what it is.
