so i cancelled my day old chick order at the feed mill and went out and adopted 20 ex-bats, and i must say after seeing where they came from,,,My wife and I feel absolutely GREAT about what we did. We feel like we did the most wonderful thing ever! Its kind of amusing to see these birds experiencing life on the outside for the first time. We picked them up last night and we have 1 egg this morning :D

Introduced the girls to earthworms today, I sat there for 2 hours and hand fed them, which took some trusting on their part( they are very skittish) they got lots of exercise chasing one another and they are also starting to wander outside in the sun...they seem so confused :?

Well done you :) You will get a few eggs for a while- then they will probably go off for a few weeks- regrow feathers and get used to the great outdoors :) Then they will lay like mad! You will have eggs coming out of your ears!
regards, David :)

Well done to you and I hope you get much more enjoyment from your new arrivals. Be sure to keep us posted on how they are settling in :)

Ah commercial Leghorns by the look of things.

Do they lay white eggs? Are you in the US by any chance? We don't normally have these in the UK as consumers prefer a brown egg.

There's some information in Ex Battery Hens here - take a look at the FAQ - it has most of the common questions that may help you along the way ;)

Good on you, I'm sure your girls will have a fantastic retirement.

Well done. It's kind of you to give them a chance.

I'd love a couple of photos to use on the site if you are taking a few?

I don't have any Leghorn Ex-Batt photos...

I would love to send you some photos, but i have quite a hard time uploading to this site, maybe i could email them to you. i am taking lots of photos

Yes, of course. You can attach photos to a PM. or alternatively email them to [email protected] and they will reach me.

When posting pictures on the forum, the main 'problem' that people get is when the image size is too big. There is a size limit...

Many thanks!

Tim
