electric poultry fence question

hi all im curious about the poultry electric fences i like the idea but not convinced they will work surely a hen can jump over a meter high am i wrong

Hi dye29,
Its not for keeping the hens in its for keeping the predators out but would be more than a metre high anyway I would think (or ordinary wire fencing with off-stand single electric wires to deter predators from climbing it.

Once they have had a shock to their combs they tend to be wary about going too close to the fence and it's rare (though not unknown) for birds to fly over, even at the standard 1.1m. Obviously the lighter and flightier the breed the greater the chances of them flying over but with large fowl I haven't had any problems.
