Hi i have some quail eggs coming off ebay soon, just needed some advice on how to hatch them. i have hatched ducks and chickens but not quails. these will be coturnix quails. any advice would be great full.

Incubate dry until turning stops on Day 16, then top up the water pots and lock down the incubator and leave them to hatch on day 17 or 18 without disturbance. The shells are not so hard and unyielding as chicken or duck eggs and don't usually pose any problems, mine all hatched comparatively fast. The chicks are really tiny but grow incredibly fast, as you'd expect from birds that are laying eggs when 8 weeks old! Take extra care that they can't fall in the water pots because they are so small. Katie Thear's book 'Keeping Quail' is very useful, see Amazon http://amzn.to/J0CoVO

Sorry, forgot to say set temp. at 37.5 and decrease to 37 at pipping. I'm sure you know all about giving them nonslip matting eg J-cloth in inci and brooder at hatch, and getting brooder up to 37 well in advance.
Also welcome to the Forum Rita. Please let us know how the hatch goes, it's good to have another quail addict on here.
