We have 5 Quails ( poss 3 females) who are 8 weeks old today. Is it normal for them
to lay 9 eggs on their first day of laying?

We have had more eggs in one day off the Quails than we have had off three chickens in 6 weeks, lol.

Are you sure you did not miss the eggs and only find them all today? Usually it takes 24 hours or more for a quail to produce one egg. It can take longer than 24 hours. Quail eggs comprise something like 10% of their body mass compared with roughly 3% for chickens eggs, so its not uncommon that it can take them longer to produce an egg. I think it would be physiologically impossible for a quail to produce 3 eggs in one day. My quails will often lay an egg and then Ill find it buried in the saw dust later. It can look like they didnt lay an egg the day before and then Ill find twice the amount as usual, for instance.

I think you may be right. We fed/ watered and cheked the previous day and didnt notice any eggs, but think four must of been laid the previous day and the other 5 the following day. Will keep checking and see if we have something special or if we did deffo miss them, probabley be the latter, lol.

Cheers for the info.

It would be nice if they laid more than one egg per day... their eggs are delicious! Enjoy your quails :)
