Hi
I have just been to collect my eggs and all of them are perfectly normal bar one which I know has been laid by my 6 year old black rock. For some reason this egg is really, really rough to touch...like its been glued then dropped in sand. There are tiny ridges all over the egg. For the last few days her eggs have been a little speckled but this one is really rough. Is she lacking in vitamins or is it a sign of something?
Any suggestions really welcome!
Thanks all! ;)

Hi,

My girls lay eggs like that periodically. My pekins eggs are sometimes speckled with a fine grit, like you say as if they have been rolled in fine sand. I too have noticed ridges on my black pekins eggs. It seems to be when she rushes the delivery of the egg. If she takes her usual two hours plus cogitating on the egg laying, it comes out rather smooth, otherwise looks like a geographical sample, ridges and craters......

I have never thought it was anything to concern myself with, and I put the abrasiveness of the shell down to lots of grit from free ranging in the garden.

Thanks for your reply! Jolly good, Im glad. Didnt think it was anything major to worry about...just wanted to make sure as Im new to keeping chucks! Thought maybe it was a sign of a defficiancy of some description!
She did lay it rather quickly so that must be it!
Thanks again so much! :D
