Hi, just a quick question. We recently had to treat our Wyandotte with antibiotics and it said on the instructions to abstain from eating the eggs for 28 days. Is this because the drug goes into the eggs?
Its a real shame as alot of my girls are laying now but we cannot eat them as we don.t know who is laying what.

Hi, if it advises 28 days i would not eat them before. Are all your hens wyandottes? if not, can you not tell by the egg colour who is laying what?
regards, David :)

Hi David, no, my others are Pekins. Unfortunately they all look the same colour and there is not much difference in size either as the Wyandottes are bantams also.

Yes, the antibiotics carry and so will have traces in the eggs and won't be licenced to enter the human food chain.

You could try putting a bit of food colouring on her vent so that it rubs off into the eggs and avoid that one - sounds crazy but it works to see who is laying 8-)

Thanks for that Iwescott, will give it a go as I have 8 chickens in that run and don't want to throw them all away. :D
