Placed 18 egg's in the incubator last wednesday, and candled them last night after seven day,s and thirteen of them are infertile. Let the egg's stand for 24 hour's aswell. I'll source the egg's locally next time

Very wise Gazeds. There's a good income to be made selling duff eggs to people. We've all heard the complaints from breeders that people on ebay are using the photos of their flocks to sell eggs. If you knew it was a reputable breeder on ebay fair enough, you could buy. But you can expect losses in transit anyway. If you know what you want pre-order and drive over to collect them. Cost isn't important if the eggs are good -you can waste a lot of valuable time otherwise.

A reputable breeder is going to have their own website and a link to this will be in the listing, then you can check and have some other way to evaluate them. They should have pics on there of their stock and you can tell a lot from the way the information is presented about how competent and genuine they are. I've found several good dealers this way, not only for eggs but for other stuff. Not infallible, but if there's no website and no more information than in the advert, I'd say stay clear.

I no that feeling, just had the same thing, bought 12 got 0! and they werent cheap!!

I've had quite a few hits and misses off ebay eggs - my last disaster were 4 supposed barheaded goose eggs - were'nt cheap. Was suspicious when they arrived as they were huge!, 2 went rotten within 12hrs, the other 2 also went rotten, I contacted a few others who had bought the same eggs - all had the same results, this person had sold nearly 200 of them, supposedly from only 5 birds!, under different names and refused to send actual pics of the birds - they were stock pics, they made nearly 3 grand off selling this species eggs alone and they still have lots of rare phesent, turkey, partridge, quail and other goose eggs etc and for lots of money so they are making a killing!! I did report them and got my money back through ebay though which was good but wether they'll do anything or not I don't know!!!
So there are it seems a good few dodgy ones on there, but saying that there are some good ones, I just had 6 out of 6 lavender runner ducks hatch 2 days ago although 1 was pretty weak and didn't make it, and have had 6 out of 6 la bresse hatch today - I got 6 eggs off the same seller a few weeks ago and got 4 out of 6, and I've got another 16 in the inci from another who knows the first seller, so I'm hoping they're not duff! I haven't had such luck with bantams though and only got 4 hatch out of 22 eggs and they weren't cheap, and I got 6 infertile from another seller which was a bumer but they weren't very expensive.
So pretty hit and miss - not so bad if they're cheap eggs!!

i soooooooo know that feeling i spent the best part of £150 last year on hatching eggs off fleabay but mainly off the local poultry auction place, cheap ones go for about £6 for a half dozen for the well known eggs, i was trying several different incubators and two home made ones trying to produce light sussex and silkies, i had some cracking rates and some totally waste of times.

i have just today organised a supply of five chooks and i am going for my own breeding programe again

i got 10 live orpington chicks out of 18 and only 3 were not fertile. this year first year i sent away for eggs off ebay had over 50% hatch in all and one lady sending me 6 more eggs as only 2 took. i do prefure to collect but not many around my area of the breeds i want

I have been looking at hatching eggs on ebay - it might be a good idea for people to list sellers they have bought from and had good experiences with?

I bought hatching eggs from ebay a few years ago and put them under a hen, bought 6 and 2 hatched which wasn't too bad, they were silkies. It would be helpful for those thinking about incubating their own eggs (like I am doing right now) to know where to buy from!

There is a list on here somewhere CherokeeRose. 'Ebay the good' and another 'ebay the bad'. Don't know where to find it though.
