Head screatching continues. She laid this morning and the egg has a noticably thicker shell after two days of layers pellets. She was locked in the coop and run with no way for a predator to get in. Rosie added a curtain across the coop to create a nest box effect, although that area has a lot of light. So the egg is perfect -no pecking. Problem is we changed too many things at once and now still don't know what was going on. She's not broody either! We had the same pecked 'slot' in another coop. I assumed it was a predator and added a curtain to the nest box -it stopped.
Unfortunately to get to the bottom of this we have to risk further egg loss and potential egg eating.
