Why on earth would this happen I wonder?! Disgruntled delivery driver? I cant think why they would be in anything other than very specialised transport in the first place. Not like dumping newspapers to shorten the round!

Absolutely awful, Rick. Probably all girls, this time their hatch brothers had a better death. Wished I lived a bit nearer, they were probably destined to be lovely lively family enhancing brown egg layers, or broilers. I will never forget my first 6 brown girls, loads of character and cheek, and loved by everybody.

I hope that whoever dumped these chicks is caught quickly and given the appropriate punishment. but I wouldn't hold my breath with the judicary we have these days. Somebody must know where the chicks came from, you can't dump that many without somebody knowing. This was a cruel act.

I just wonder why? Obviously, they were being delivered somewhere specialising in rearing on chicks for sale, and they had commercial value. If they didn't arrive, the recipient would surely report it to the breeder, who would know which firm had undertaken to deliver them, so the driver could easily be traced.
Maybe they were in badly-secured crates on the back of a lorry, which was being driven too fast so they fell off? in that case, you'd think there would be some evidence of broken crates etc. - and it would still be easy to trace the driver.
Most cases of dumped poultry are overgrown unwanted cockerels, in much smaller numbers.

I'm guessing that the driver couldn’t deliver for some reason and so emptied the van in favour of another job. Who knows. Very stupid. Very sad. Someone's going to get prosecuted though - we just might not hear about it as it probably wont be as news worthy at the time.
