Hi can anyone tell me what sort of plants i can plant in my mandarin/carolina duck aviary please ? I have a small pond enclosed in the aviary was wondering if there is any small pond plants i could add into the pond and also what can i plant inside the run to help give them shady places to explore ? Any help would be greatly appreciated ? Thanks

John

I wouldn't bother trying pond plants , the ducks would destroy them in a heartbeat , a mixture of evergreen, laurel ,bamboo, conifer, etc and deciduous shrubs like viburnums are good , around the pond I'd use ferns , nice effect and probably safe from hungry ducks.

thanks ribofilio for your reply i will give the plants you mentioned a try.

No problem , my comments are based on experience , I had a good sized pond planted up with lillies and various pond plants , decided a pair of carolinas would look nice , within a month all that was left were a couple of flag iris plants and a very muddy pond .

It's not so much what plants they won't the eat, it's the soil disturbance they will investgate.
