We have kept ducks as pets for some years but we lost our favourite duck to a fox a month or so ago and decided we would try to incubate the last egg which she laid. We had never done this before although we did have a small incubator available.
All went well - the egg hatched on 28th June and we had a really big healthy duckling which was eating well.
However, yesterday when checking the duckling we found it on it's back with it's legs thrashing around. It seemed to be having a convulsion. When it stopped moving I tried heart massage and blowing gently down its mouth but it died.
Does anyone have any idea what would have caused this.
