Hi there,

Just wondered if anyone miight know what is the matter with my white campbell duck. Her feathers have gone all yellow around her eyes. There is no pus visible at all, her actual eyes seem fine. She has started moulting, so I wondered if it was to do with that, but her drake is moulting too, and he has no eye problems.

The duck had a prolapse back in April, although this condition seems to have improved now that she has stopped laying, and the drakes have laid off her. Otherwise she acts normally and is quite a strong bird.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Hazel

Hello, it might be just that she is moulting- also white birds tend to turn yellow in bright sunlight- that's why people who show keep their white birds under cover- if her eyes are fine then i wouldn't worry too much- do you feed maize? or mixed corn?
regards, David :)

Hi David,

Thanks for your reply.

She gets fed layers mash and boiled potatoes in the evening, and layers pellets or bread in the morning. Her wing feathers haven't been so white for a while now, which I have put down to the drakes! The ducks also tend to favour oily ditches and bogs (we live in a peaty area), and our white duck does have a tendancy to come home filthy of an evening - although the drake is always pristine!

It hasn't been that sunny here, but we do have 24 hour daylight (I'm in Shetland) at the moment.

Hopefully it is just down to the moult and she'll look better soon.

Thanks again for your advice.

Cheers

Hazel
