Can anyone give me tips on creating a good duck pond? Right now I have a kiddie pool, and it will work for a while, but I'd like to make them a real pond.
I have a raised grassy area where I can dig a pond and put in a drainage pipe. I read that it should be at least 2.5 feet deep and that if you don't have fish in it you don't need to use a filter. I planned to use a pump to aerate the water so good bacteria will grow. I'd like my pond to be healthy so that I don't have to dump it or pump the water out to change. I plan to do partial water changes when/if necessary. I have lots of experience with fish tanks, fresh and salt water, so I know about allowing a good bed of bacteria to grow to cause the denitrification process. But I need to know what's required as far as how often/how much/if water changes need to be done, about pumps and/or any other necessities to keep it healthy.
Thanks for any advice.
