Hello,I have two call ducks, females.Recently one of them has got into habit of sitting on eggs all day.Is it of concern? It sits, doesnt move, doesnt eat or drink.

She is broody. I take it you have no drake. If you want her to sit you will need to get her some fertile hatching eggs. Otherwise you will need to break her broodiness.

If she were a chicken you would do this by putting her in a cage ie a dog crate raised off the ground on bricks with food and water and leave her there for a few days. However, I have never had to deal with a broody duck and so am not sure if this appropriate as they have webbed feet. In any case you need to take the eggs away and keep her away from where she is sitting. I am sure someone who keeps ducks can give you advice.

I think you have posted this question in the wrong forum as it concerns waterfowl.

Thanks 3441Susex, I'll move the topic to waterfowl.
I think your duck's behaviour is just natural for the time of year! Just keep removing the eggs and enjoy them.

Hiya :) yes very normal for this time of year :) As long as she doesn't sit for more than 28 days she will be ok. Make sure she has food and water close by as she will come off for about half an hour a day to bathe eat and drink :) You could just keep taking her eggs away though, that usually helps them stop going broody :)

Thanks,
I believed I had bought a Drake,it soon became obvious it wasn't and I wouldn't take it back.On reflection I wasn't comfortable with the seller,as he even increased the price when I got there saying it was a show duck.It wasnt as good a the duck I already had, but it was collected at night so I was at a disadvantage.Anyway, lesson learnt.
