Hi. I am new to Duck keeping and have acquired some calls, indian runners and a few that are crosses, at the moment they all live in the same house without any problem, but I just wondered what will happen when any of them start to lay eggs, as when I lock them up or let them out they all charge round the house like mad things and I fear they will trample any eggs that might be laid. When do they lay, where will they lay, what time of day do they lay and any further help and info would be greatly appreciated. :?

Hi Senna,

Ducks usually lay very early in the morning - so often you will find the eggs when you let them out. Sometimes they will find a place where they like to lay and leave them there, but more often than not, they just drop them off wherever they are at the time!

They have pretty strong shells and can usually get knocked around without being squashed.

Ideally, you need a wide door to your duck house as they do come out at speed and can trample one another - especially Indian Runners on little Calls...

Good luck.

Tim
