i got 2 mallard ducks 1 male 1 female, the female has started laying eggs but only 1 at a time, and not very often. in total shes probably laid about 8 eggs over the last couple of months, i just want to know is this normal ? or should she be laying more? if so what can i do as i want them to have ducklings soon. they live in my wooden shed which has been emptied and covered in hay, they have a free roam of the garden daily i was thinking maybe she needs a more private bedding area in side the shed where she will be more comfortable to lay ? if so has anyone got any tips on what i could use for her.. thanks for reading...

Hi
I have not been doing it for long but my ducks lay every day, there is a season tho for ducks. Its to do this the need to hatch young before they migrate.

Do you know there age and do you find she is nesting out side? My saxony does this every so often and its hard to find the eggs?

Ahh bless her! She may just be young and inexperienced. Shd will find her own lerfdct placd when she is ready which may not be until next year. Mallard dont lay many eggs as they still maintain their wild physiological status. This is a good thing for their reproductivd health. Keep us posted x

hi i didnt know mallards mygrated what i do know is that mallards lay an egg every other day and when they have enough they begin sitting in the wild this can be as early as march and very often more than one brood in a year all the best unle fox
