Went to the girls today and noticed my crested had what looks a bit like matted feathers from maybe blood etc. To check I proceeded to to catchher , with her being the most skittish bird I've ever seen it was a nightmare. During the ordeal she hadmanaged to cut her comb a little .

After checking her over etc re the original problem it seems it may have just been water on her feathers as there was no transfer when wiped over.

Now my problem is I have a slightly bleeding bird, i need to pop out and get some purple spray whenthe local animal ssupplies opens but for now I've put her in this as the others are showing an interest in her comb.

I assume this is fine for the time being?

These are some attempted pics of the initial feathers that caught my attention you see the patch at the front.

Any advise appreciated.

Don't worry too much, you can pop a dab of vaseline with flour to disguise and protect the wound for now, if it is a small scrape around the head/comb the other birds should not be too interested as she can easily duck or peck back :) I would leave her in the run with her flock mates, she is less likely to injure herself if less stressed.

Thanks for the speedy reply!

Will pop the shop now as she seems settled, gives her time to calm down before in stress her out again!

The blood on the beak has as good as gone as thewater has washed it off and shows ssigns its stopped bleeding.

Had to be the stressy one didn't it.....

Sprayed her up also did the bit on her neck just in caseit was aanything. Seems fine, will be surprised if II get eggs from her in the next few days

We have two Cream Legbars Bickerton. One is just as skittish, the other is just so laid back. I'd have done as you, separated for a short while. Then cleaned up and we use Stockholm Tar (messy but cheap) or Gentian Violet. Both are applied with cotton buds.

This one doesn't even squat like the others, just goes crazy! To be fair I think the peck block is higher up the pecking order than she is..

I've found this dog cage invaluable in the time I've owned it. Recommend people keep an eye for badly listed ones o ebay.

Yep, dog crates are great :-)17 as are pet carriers ( a few Ive had from freecycle)

We shipped all our chickens over here in 7 dog cages we'd bought over the previous year from Preloved. The 8th one we had to buy new.
