Hi everyone.
I am not new to keeping ducks but in this instance I need some advice please.
This year I purchased two new Cherry Valley ducklings to add to the six I already have. I only want Ducks as keep them for eggs that I sell.
It turns out that one of the new ones ,seventeen weeks old, is a Drake. I contacted the person that sold me them (sexed,Female) and was told not to worry as they will not mate. Somehow I find this a strange statement as they are male and female. I would welcome some advice please as I cant keep him if he will want to mate with them.

I would think that, if you bought them as two ducks, you should be able to return and exchange the drake, or at least have a refund. After all, even if you get a refund and keep him, whether or not he will mate with the ducks, you'll be feeding an unwanted bird for several years, and will not have as many ducks as you planned for. I know nothing about ducks, except that none of the ones I see on the river here appear to have taken a vow of chastity! If he was a bit late maturing, it would be understandable that he was wrongly sexed at point of sale, but a reputable breeder should be willing to put you right on this one.

Thank you Marigold. Unfortunately there was no such offer from the breeder so I wont be using her ever again. All the points you made are correct and I am quite annoyed that I was told such a stupid thing as "They won't mate". Thanks for your help.
