Just read in an old Country Smallholding magazine (aug.2008 p.53) that ACV reacts with zinc in galvanised drinkers and zinc is poisonous to birds. Some may already know this and I am sure some have used it in galvanised drinkers with no ill effects but felt that as I had read it I needed to pass it on.

Thanks for that Anne,I was told before I got chickens to never put acv in galvanised containers but I wasn't sure why.I'd assumed that the acid in it would corrode galvanised drinkers and they would go rusty, didn't realise it could possibly poison the chooks.

Yes, I agree Anne.

ACV is acidic and will corrode metal containers - but also, as you say can release zinc from the galvanising. Galvanised 'chicken wire' is also a risk - snippets ingested can give birds Zinc poisoning

Zinc, an essential trace element (in large quantities) is poisonous to poultry causing convulsions, leg weakness and weight loss. If you suspect Zinc poisoning, you can get treatment from your vet in the form of Sodium Calciumedetate.

Zinc poisoning can be confirmed by veterinary blood analysis - they sometimes get green diarrhoea, which I have also seen with lead poisoning in Swans.
