i am a little worried about my chicken houses { 1 wendy house , 1 a 6'4 shed } as they get a little damp with the rain going though the seams of the shiplap wood even though they have been painted few then a few times anyway i was looking online about treating chicken houses from bad weather and i found one site that recommends that chicken houses should always be placed in direct sunlight is that ok to do as surely they would get to hot , i have moved both of mine to one side of the run where at times they are both shaded from the very large sycamore tree thats within the run as i was worried about them getting just that bit to hot in the summer .

I think you are doing the right thing by putting them in a position which gets some shade in summer as sheds get mighty hot!! As for them letting in water, we put tarpulain on top to keep out the rain. Not sure how you could stop it coming through the sides though without boarding out the shed.

am hoping to put some tarpaulin around the side that leaks the most today am going to tack it under the roofing so it hangs down as i cant think of what else to do or use .

My bantie run on the allotment is covered with clear pvc sheets under which I put a layer of green shading material. I also made panels of clear pvc to clip on the sides of the run when and where required depending on wind/rain direction etc. Attach some pics. Hope they are of interest. ;)

i like your run :) i have used old fence panels along some sides of my run to help with the low wind and a few old large plastic corrugated sheets as well but i cant do anything with the roof as its so big , tarpaulin over time for the roof would not be worth while although if i decided to keep the houses where they are then maybe before the winter i can try and fit up a solid roof over them to keep them dry but thats a 2 person job so i would need to find help .

Its a lovely run you have ther bantiekeeper. We are hoping to put some clear pvc sheets over our run before winter. Last year we put a strong piece of plastic sheeting over it which kept the rain off but tended to fill up with water as well which wasn't ideal.

Thanks Claire,
It's home to our 6 Wyandotte bantams. They get to free range every day on the allotment for 2-3 hours. They love it! :D
