Do chicks need grit?

I've just got some new chicks from a farm, they are now about 10 days old. I'm feeding them chick crumbs and plenty of water. One question which no one seems to answer is whether I should be feeding them grit. Can anyone help with this? This is my first attempt at rearing chicks, so I'm anxious to get it right!

i'm not sure if 10 weeks is to early or not i would like to know as well as mine are due to hatch may bank hoilday week an i leave grit out all the time although in thier section of the run i doubt there will be any as they wont be in with any other birds for a very long time .

At 10days old and on crumb they don't need grit, when they are older and off heat outside you may want to give them supplemental grit. In my opinion I don't really think it's necessary, but that will largely depend on whether your chickens will have access to natural grit or not.

As long as they're on just chick crumb, there's no need but when you start to feed them more solid food which I tend to do quite early, especially as they're with a broody hen who I don't expect to live on chick crumb. You need chick grit if and when you do decide to offer it. Put it in a little pot and they will help themselves.

hi once you start them on growers ration they will need grit most grit that you buy will be in all shapes and sizes give them access to it and they will take what they want once they are outside they will find there own but dont relie on this they should always have access to food water and grit as it aids digestion all the best uncle fox
