Do chickens fart?

I have not observed any evidence either way, (so far as i know, my girls are well-brought-up and perfectly behaved young ladies, but then, I don't spend the night with them in the coop, even when the pophole's open) but found this elsewhere and thought perhaps some of you might have further observations to add, in the interests of scientific research.

Bottom lives up to his name. On occasion minutes prior to a poo, he does.............silently and with a completely innocent expression.

I guess chickens do not fart in the sense of humans..they simply don't have the bowel structure or muscular diapragm..I suppose if one squeezes a bit hard??? :shock: :shock:

I had a bout of egg eating when I first kept chickens, and after feeding them a mustard egg, a stronger mustard egg followed by a chilli, mustard and anything else horrible I could think of - all of which they devoured happily and quickly - the last one leaving the hen house passed me with her mouth open and tongue out, and there was a definite, audible bottom burp as she passed me. :lol:

Well I guess there is only so much gas a bowel can take...even a short one...did her eggs pop out or shoot across the henhouse?

I'd say 'YES' when Ebrill did her giant, morning poop this morning there was a definite 'Pffftt' prior to it!!
