different size chicks

hi all advice time again, i have 3 silike chicks about 4 weeks old now i got these when they were a week old, two of the chicks have grown to at least twice the original size and have wing feathers and saddle feathers now but the third has the feathers starting but it is still about the same size as when we got it, they all hatched the same day, is this normal or have i ended up with a runt of the litter like you can get in dogs

Hi Steve,

I seemed to miss this post for some reason!

I haven't seen this happen before but it seems reasonable that the little chick might not be as healthy and isn't growing at the correct rate...

What has happened since your original post? Is there any progress - has the chick grown?

funnily enough tim when i got up this morning she was dead in the cage, she was still the same size as when new born just about, still living indoors in and indoor rabbit run with the other two, couldnt see any obvios signs of pecking or anything on her, think she just died in her sleep ( i hope) she had become the family favourite, she spent all day outside with all the other chickens then brought back in at night time, all are free ranging in the garden so have an area about 100x50 foot to roam in, which is mainly grass and a bit of an old allotment in,

still not sure what happened but maybe it was for the best

Oh sorry to hear that Steve.

Sounds like she wasn't right from the start... sometimes these things happen - sorry to hear this though.
