does anyone use diatome powder, the lady i got my birds from gave it to me for worm and lice etc. and just said to mix it in with their water for a coouple of days every few months.
my problem is she gave me no indication of quanities and the bottle just says 5% which i am assuming means 5% of the water i'm mixing it in to.
so would this be 0.65ml in 13l of water?
and how do i work out 0.65ml of powder?
i am really worried becuase i don't want to over does my ladies but need to worm them as there in run at the moment (eventhough they can leave and free range only two have figured it out) and i don't know how long it's been.

can you help. thanks

I've not heard of it being mixed into water before but I suppose it would work so long as it doesn't sink or float.

Diatom is excellent stuff, I've used it for years - You can dust it onto the chooks to help beat lice and mites, around their house, bedding and rub into perches to get rid of red mite but also, feed it to them to help reduce internal parasites - worms.

I mix some into their mash - the quantity I use is a sprinkle or two... you can mix it in with layers pellets too but more does get lost as it falls through - I sprinkle on top of the feeder once it's full so it slowly moves through the pellets as they move down.

For worming, I'm a Verm-X convert and this can be given easily in pellet form with their normal food. I used to use Flubenvet but have been taking a more natural approach with my birds.

Hope this helps.
