Hi Guys

I might have messed up my maths (which is poor) and worked out that day 18 is today when actually it was yesterday..... I turned the eggs twice yesterday as well. Would this have mattered?

For information the eggs went into the incy 20:00 3rd Jun. So I just assumed Sunday 24th would be hatch day and day 18 should be Thurs 21st.

I also had to remove an egg as there was a rotten egg smell coming from one of the eggs. So I sniffed each egg individually :-)03 and found the culprit. Candled it to confirm and there were no veins...

Cheers

Paul

You did well to spot the dud egg, I think removing this would probably have saved a lot of trouble. You are still 3 days from probable hatch, so turning them yesterday was OK. The first day you put them in the incubator is Day 0, so Day 21 is on Sunday as you originally thought. Phew!
Have you lined the floor of the incubator with some kind of non-slip rubber matting or j- cloth, to prevent the chicks sliding around and getting spraddled legs!

Hi Marigold thanks very much for getting back so soon.. That's a relief then. My maths is still poor lol.

I haven't got any J cloths anywhere, not long used the last one. I will have a look at work tonight for some rubber matting.

Thanks again! I can rest easy now until Sunday :-)

Don't panic if you do get it wrong - I often do as can't count to save my life! I had a few randoms in the inci a few weeks ago that I didn't know when they were due - they had been stuck under a broody turkey and others kept sneaking in and laying extra, and when the turkey buggered off I decided not to waste the fertile live eggs so popped them in the inci. I left them in the main one which has an automatic turning mechanism until they were actually pipping, then I moved them to the hatcher with higher humidity, all hatched so I don't think turning them does them too much damage!!:D Good luck with your hatch!!:)

Doesn't have to be j-cloth, anything will do that'll give a nonslip base for their little feet whilst their leg muscles come to life, eg an old cotton cloth or tea towel, cut to size and shape to go under the eggs once turning is finished. Then put the inci into ' lockdown ' ie no more opening it up and fiddling about inside and causing the temperature and humidity to drop whilst they are hatching, and for up to 24 hours after whilst they are drying off
